Back to Reality

After spending 2 very short weeks at the beach life here is back to normal, well almost. Marty had an appointment with a neurosurgeon this morning, and he will be having his herniated disc repaired on Friday, August 1st. The recovery time will be approximatly 8 weeks if all goes as planned. Please pray for both of us during this time. Marty has NEVER had surgery of any kind, let alone been hospitalized. I am pretty nervous about the entire procedure. The Dr. will go in through the front of his neck and operate that way. Any surgery on the back scares me so I definatly need prayer for peace during this time. I am praying that we have made the right decision and that this surgery will help him. I know he is very uncomfortable right now and he needs some relief.

On a lighter note, I will post some pictures from the beach soon. I still havent unpacked my camera. We are enjoying the pool this summer and are looking forward to the Annual Rodeo at the Rec Center. It is two nights this year and I am sure I will be exhausted afterwords but it is always such a great event!

Here's Pokey

As I was saying, Jordan is now being referred to as POKEY. While Marty is out with his neck injury, we have started making the kids help more around the house. This morning, Marty needed to cut grass, but he had an ESI yesterday and I really didn't want him to aggrevate his injury by push mowing the yard. (For those of you that don't know..Marty decided a few years ago to park the riding lawnmower. He went out and purchased a push mower so he could get some exercise.. Well, that would be okay normally but we have over 4 acres that has to be mowed. ) Anyway, Marty gave Jordan the task of mowing the yard today. I am so glad we didn't tell him we would pay him hourly.

Happy Birthday Jordan!

It is so hard for me to believe that my first born turned 10 last week.. It seems like yesterday when I found out I was pregnant with him. A lot has happened in the past 10 years, some good and some bad, But all of it has been a learning experience. He is such a great kid (most of the time) He is respectful, fun, and has dimples that will melt my heart everytime he smiles. Marty and I have decided that we should call him Pokey because he never gets in a hurry for anything. It sometimes takes him forever to tell a story, get in the car, walk etc. He just takes his time and he takes it all in. So with that said.... Happy Birthday Pokey! I mean Jordan.... WE LOVE YOU

Prestwood with Darlene & Family

Mom and her longtime friend Darlene decided they wanted to get all their grandchildren together sometime this summer. We all met this past Saturday at Lawton Park. They have renovated the park and the pavilion and it is a lot nicer now. Mom, Lori and I, along with the children met Darlene and her daughters and daughter in law with their kids. After a while the kids started playing together, but Mom and Darlene had the best time I think. Mom and Lori showed off their Hula Hoop skills, and little Seth amazed us with his bubbles. It was great to see Darlene's girls again. I see her daughter in law Marci and Marci's son Dristan at the pool during summer, and it was nice to see them again too. Dristan and Jordan started playing together about the time the rest of us were ready to go, so hopefully they will play together at the pool. Here are some pictures of our fun on Saturday.

New Shorter Do.....

Kenzie decided she wanted a new, shorter hair style for summer. She wanted something off of her neck and this was as short as I would let her go. She actually wanted it even shorter, but I couldn't let her go any shorter. This was drastic enough for me this time.

So, What is the good news?

Marty has hurt his shoulder and neck some how and went to the Dr. this morning. He was given a steroid dose pack and is scheduled for an MRI in the morning. The Dr. also took Marty out of work for a couple of weeks. Please pray for me, it is summer I already have the two kids at home and now Marty. Don't get me wrong, I love having everyone at home, but we all eventually get a little stir crazy.

Jordan was invited to attend DSAP this summer. It is an academic program for students who scored proficient or higher in math on the PACT test last year. So, we are taking him and picking him up everyday. We are very proud of him for attending this program. He is learning to speak and write in Chinese. He is also learning about several other countries as well as new technology, and music.

We went to pick him up today and as soon as he got in the car, Marty told him, " I have good news and bad news, which do you want first?"
Jordan said, "Give me the bad news."
Marty said, " I have hurt my neck and my shoulder"
Kenzie then said, "And he is out of work for two weeks." (which Kenzie meant to be the good news)
Jordan's response..."So, what is the good news?"
Poor Marty, he just shook his head and didn't say a word. And for me, I just laughed.....My thoughts exactly.

Out of the mouth of Babes...

I was working tonight when Mackenzie decided to join me in my office. I had the TV on and Wheel of Fortune happened to be on at the time. Mackenzie frequently comes in my office and sits in my lap for a spell at night. Anyway, it was time for the FINAL SPIN. You know where the screen is split to show the the three contestants on the top and the puzzle on the bottom. Well, Kenzie looked a little puzzled herself so I said, " What are you looking at so hard Kenzie?" She said "What is wrong with that lady?" "What lady?", I asked.. The one right there in that dress, on the bottom, Why is she so small?" It took me a while, but I finally figured out what she was talking about.. She couldnt figure out why Vanna looked so small. She actually thought that Vanna was somehow I dont know, inches tall. (Did I mention that Mackenzie is really Blonde? I use to be so that is probably why it took me a few minutes to figure out what she was talking about.. And she was sitting beside me so there may have been a wind tunnel thing going on at some point....)

In case you are wondering, I did not laugh at her at the time, I just told her that Vanna was a real person and she was a normal height. And I tried to explain the split screen thing to her, but that was not well understood. Meanwhile, Jordan and Marty were in the living room hanging out watching a movie or something.
