We are off!!

We are leaving this afternoon to go snow tubing!!! Several of my friends and their families are going too. We are planning to have a great time, snow or not. Wouldn't you know when we plan to leave, it is like 70 degrees here and beautiful. I am so ready for warm weather, and when it gets here, I go seek some snow. Go figure. Anyway, I will be posting lots of pictures when I get back ( I hope ).

Mackenzie comes up with the craziest things sometimes. I never know what in the world is going to come out of her mouth. One thing is for sure, she is BLONDE, and she is not scared to show it. Don't get me wrong, she is very smart and does extremely well in school. She just has a different view of the world I guess.

For example, we were going home the other day before we went to church for the kids group. We passed a cow pasture (yes, we live in the country) and there were some calves that were nursing. What I saw was a big, white momma cow feeding her baby which happened to be black. Okay, this sounds racist, but I promise it is not. Kenzie says to me, "Momma, What is wrong with that cow?" and I said "Nothing, why do you ask?" She said "Mommy, that cow has one head and two butts." (Yes, she says butts, thanks to an older sibling and older cousins, it was very hard to avoid) I said "No, honey that was a momma cow and a baby cow. The baby cow is nursing." I knew when I said that, this was not the end of the conversation. She said, What is nursing?" So I explained, In cow terms that the momma cow has utters and the baby cow gets milk out of the utters. Then "Mommy, how do Mommies nurse their babies?"
So then I had to explain that.. "Well, when you have a baby, your breasts make milk and the baby gets the milk from their mommy's breast. I could see the wheels turning in her head and almost thought that was the end of the conversation. Boy was I wrong.

She said, "So they get milk out their mommy's temples?"
I said, "You mean, nipples?"
"Yes, that is what I meant mommy"

All I can say is Bless her heart.... She is so blonde.

Busy Busy Busy

We had a busy weekend this past weekend. Well, I should say Jordan had a busy weekend. He spent the night at his friend Matt's house for Matt's birthday. As soon as I picked him up on Sunday and he got a shower, his girlfriend came to pick him up for a Valentine's "date". They went (with her parents of course) to eat and to a movie. They are the cutest little couple. They are both rather shy and do not talk much at all. Cassie's mom and I just laugh because whenever they plan these "dates" I have to call her mom or she calls me. Cassie gave Jordan the cutest Chocolate Dog, and a Huge monkey balloon. Jordan gave Cassie a HUGE stuffed dog that was holding a heart that said Hug me. They are all growing up so fast, but as long as the mom's can go on these "dates" with them, I am okay with that.

Kenzie enjoyed her weekend of being the only child. She didn't have to fight for the television or over what she wanted to eat for supper. She pretty much got her way all weekend. And I was only able to take pictures of her because she was the only one here.


Overall we had a great weekend, but I am ready for a quite weekend at home with nothing to do. Hopefully that will be this weekend. We are bird sitting for Pebbles and Bam Bam. Kenzie's class pets.

I must not have anything better to do...

The snow day last week was quite a surprise to everyone, especially our school district. The roads were horrible and school was business as usual, for the most part. The kids that went to school played in the snow and watched movies, after enjoying the "ride" to school with ice on the road.

My father in law was released from the hospital so Pat and I headed to Florence to pick him up. The roads were very slick so I took my time getting to her house and getting to Florence. I drove by several of my friends houses and took pictures for them. Like I had nothing better to do. Anyway, these are some of the pictures I took on our second snow of the year!

So much for global warming...

Exactly two weeks and one day ago, we awoke to snow. Well, I woke up this morning and guess what? We have snow again!!! I cannot remember a winter when it snowed twice in SC (where it actually "stuck") much less twice in less than a month. This is nice to see, but we we are going to school in it this time. No snow day for us :(. I am just starting to wonder what happened to the global warming problem we have been having?

What's Cookin?

I love to cook, and well, I also love to eat! I love to try to cook new dishes and read new cookbooks. I even had one of my recipes published once. The recipe was for a Loaded Baked Potato Casserole and it is delicious. Some of my friends call me or email me occasionally and ask if I have some new recipes and I LOVE to share my recipes with them. One of my dear friends, Cindy, emailed me last week. She had thought of me when she was cooking the potato soup recipe I had given her last year. I like to cook almost anything, but my favorites are the easy ones that don't have a lot of crazy ingredients.

So, I have decided to create a blog just for my recipes. Check it out and feel free to try any of my favorites and send me some of your favorites as well. I am going to try to post a recipe everyday in no particular order. There are a few there now, a southern favorite, Shrimp and Grits, some soups, desserts, entrees and appetizers.

SPC 5K Run!!

Jordan and I participated in our very first walk/run on Saturday. It was wonderful. As most of you know, we are not runners. There was a team running from his school and he wanted to do it, so we signed up. He beat me by 4 minutes I think. I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of him. This took a lot of determination (trust me, I wanted to back out several times) from both of us. He was determined to do it, and was determined for me to do it as well. It was raining, but at least it was not cold. His school came in first place out of all the schools that participated. The school will receive a trophy with all the kids names on it. We are both sore, and exhausted today, but we finished the race well under 1 hour, so that in itself was a huge accomplishment for us.

The official times were just posted... Jordan beat me by almost 4 minutes! Way to go Jordan!!!
