Yesterday was the beginning of a new school year. I was all ready to battle the mornings with them again, but everything went smooth. I had them lay their clothes out Sunday night, woke them up at 6 am. They were ready at 6:15! Dressed and ready to go. They were happy to start their day. Everything went smooth!!! I had planned on taking their pictures to mark this day as another milestone they had passed, but my battery in my digital camera died so there will be no pictures with this post.
Today..........NOT SO SMOOTH.... Apparently the new has already worn off. What happened to my excited little angels that were so eager to learn yesterday? Both of them were grouchy and tired. (Jordan had football camp last night and didnt get home until after 8:30 so he really was tired) I guess I can't say anything today either.. I couldn't get out of bed when the alarm clock went off this morning.
2 days down, only 178 more school mornings......

Pineapple Upside Down Cake
Marty has been wanting a traditional Pineapple Upside Down Cake since before he had surgery. You know the kind. The round ones with the pineapple rings on top with the cherry in the middle. Well, my good friend Angie, had told him that her grandmother makes THE BEST Pineapple Upside down cake. For about 2 months now, every other time she calls, Marty asks "Where is my cake?" To satisfy his craving, I brought a piece home from the neighborhood store. Nope that is not what he wanted.. He wanted "Ma's" cake. So Angie finally asked "Ma" to make him one.
We went to pick it up today... Marty was excited! It was just what he wanted. His perfect, traditional cake. I took pictures so that he would remember what Angie and Ma had done for him. Kenzie ate a piece and wanted more...

I know....
I woke up this morning and remembered,,, I have a blog and it needs to be updated.
Marty did very well with the surgery. Actually AMAZED me. He was up and walking just hours after coming back to his room. Told the nurse to show him where the door was and he would be ready to go. We knew he had to spend the night, but he was messing with the nurse. Poor thing, everytime she walked in the room, Marty would say something or do something to mess with her. He did so well that we were on our way home at 10 am Saturday morning. I was really excited to walk outside and thaw out.. I almost froze. Marty on the other hand had asked the nurse for a sled.... because he just knew it would start snowing in there any minute. The kids have been wonderful with taking care of Daddy. Kenzie is like a little nurse. She called me last night (I took Jordan to football camp.. but that is another blog) to tell me that Daddy was in the bathroom and she thought he had been in there too long. I see a pattern here because she did the same thing when she stayed with my grandparents last weekend. I told her to knock on the door and make sure he was okay,( which she had already done) and he said he was fine. He was just in the bathroom. She is a little worry-wart..

Back to Reality
After spending 2 very short weeks at the beach life here is back to normal, well almost. Marty had an appointment with a neurosurgeon this morning, and he will be having his herniated disc repaired on Friday, August 1st. The recovery time will be approximatly 8 weeks if all goes as planned. Please pray for both of us during this time. Marty has NEVER had surgery of any kind, let alone been hospitalized. I am pretty nervous about the entire procedure. The Dr. will go in through the front of his neck and operate that way. Any surgery on the back scares me so I definatly need prayer for peace during this time. I am praying that we have made the right decision and that this surgery will help him. I know he is very uncomfortable right now and he needs some relief.
On a lighter note, I will post some pictures from the beach soon. I still havent unpacked my camera. We are enjoying the pool this summer and are looking forward to the Annual Rodeo at the Rec Center. It is two nights this year and I am sure I will be exhausted afterwords but it is always such a great event!

Here's Pokey
As I was saying, Jordan is now being referred to as POKEY. While Marty is out with his neck injury, we have started making the kids help more around the house. This morning, Marty needed to cut grass, but he had an ESI yesterday and I really didn't want him to aggrevate his injury by push mowing the yard. (For those of you that don't know..Marty decided a few years ago to park the riding lawnmower. He went out and purchased a push mower so he could get some exercise.. Well, that would be okay normally but we have over 4 acres that has to be mowed. ) Anyway, Marty gave Jordan the task of mowing the yard today. I am so glad we didn't tell him we would pay him hourly.
